Independence Day

July 4, 2010 is almost here.  I feel so strongly about our country and honor those men and women that give their lives everyday so we can live ours in freedom.

I am declaring my own personal independence this year.  My chemotheraphy and radiation are completed.  Like our freedom, we can not take foregranted our health.  I am making a conscientious  effort to chose healthy foods.  In this fast paced society, it is easy to grab fast food.  I have done it many times myself.  Once started, it becomes a bad habit.  I am learning to think ahead and plan wisely before my hunger strikes.

Summer is such a perfect time to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables.  Traverse City grows the best corn.  The big farm wagons are loaded with ears fresh out of the field.  Cherries are now in season.  Road stands pop up in several areas.  The home grown fruits and vegetables benefit both farmers and locals.
I know there are no preservatives or additives in these foods to effect my health.

My energy level has returned.  I no longer sleep for hours on end.  I feel good and plan to walk and excerise more.   There are many trails that meander through nature.  It is refreshing for the spirit.

My journey has ended.  I move forward now with a healthier outlook on life.  I want to put good foods in my body and stay active.  I don't know what I may face in the years ahead, but for now I am enjoying my day of independence.
