Cancer has forced me to slow down. As a result, I learn something new everyday. I passed by Dan, a co-worker, as I was heading toward the paint department. He asked "How's it going?" I said fine but, I hope through all of this I have gained something.
Dan laughed in his deep voice, "You've gained your life and all your family and friends that love you." I was looking for a great epiphany. But his answer was so simple. He was right. I have learned to value my family and friends even more.
I spent my Saturday afternoon with Corey, Carrie, Riley and Allie. In order, they are my twin sister, my niece, and my great nieces. We had lunch together and then I spent time playing with Riley and Allie. Even as an adult, sometimes our silly side needs to rule. I have learned to put cancer behind me when I'm with the blond haired little girls and have fun. The more we laugh together, the healthier I feel.
I left my family with big hugs and smile on my face. I drove home more energized and feeling stronger . Sure, the chemo and radiation will cure the cancer inside my body. But, it's the love that will carry me through and beyond this disease. I have learned the most valuable lesson of all. That is love.
