Lung Cancer Survivors

When someone is diagnosed with lung cancer, they may think that they have no chance of survival, but this is simply not true. Lung cancer can be overcome with the proper medical treatment, medical care, and counseling, whether one on one or in a group. Learning how to deal with the news of this disease helps you to find your place of refuge and serenity to help deal with the diagnosis.

There is also a group called Lung Cancer Alliance Survivors that can be very helpful in many different ways. This group can find you emotional support, medical support, and medicinal support, among many other things. The survivors of lung cancer are the best support one can have during one's struggle with the disease. A survivor will understand the emotional stress you may be feeling and can be a great support system. Joining a cancer support group can also help you with your feelings, your grief, and your treatment.

The National Lung Cancer Partnership organization can also be a way for the diagnosed to share their stories with other survivors and learn about different treatment options. This organization is a group of medical oncologists, researchers, patient advocates, and survivors all grouped together for the same purpose, to find a cure and help others with this disease.

Characteristics for lung cancer survivors can be traced to a predisposed gene in our body called the GSTM1 positive. This gene is more efficient in fighting off the cancer than the lesser gene called the GSTM1. The stronger of the two genes is much more active at detoxifying the carcinogens of lung cancer. There are many survivors of lung cancer and there will be many in our future of research and medicine.
